Dr. Charles Oswald, who teaches within Walker College, was recently named an inaugural member of the North Carolina Bar Association Pro Bono Honor Roll for his work in the community providing legal services to those unable to pay.

Justin Gomez '04 MKT recently accepted a position at Winston-Salem Journal/ Media General as marketing director. He recently was employed at Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership as director of marketing and operations.

Todd Batchelor '95 MS ACC was recently named a partner with Cherry, Bekaert & Holland, L.L.P. (CB&H), one of the nation’s largest public accounting and consulting firms. Batchelor has served clients ranging in size from de novo startups to holding companies with assets in excess of $30 billion.

Shawn Vincent '94 MGT has been appointed Vice President of Partnerships and Strategic Affiliations for Georgia Health Sciences Health System.

John Divine '11 FIN recently accepted a position at Grandbridge Real Estate Capital located in Charlotte as Loan Documentation Analyst. John recently was employed at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management as a paid intern.

Scott Mendenhall '96 MGT has been named a consumer banking manager with CommunityOne Ban

k. Mendenhall previously served as a branch manager and has more than 16 years of banking experience.

Jim Rabon '03 ITOM was recently promoted to Manager of Web Development, Marketing Operations at NetApp, Inc. located in Research Triangle Park.

George Baldwin '83 MKT, the managing director government relations and sustainability for Piedmont Natural Gas in Charlotte, has been recognized by the Charlotte Business Journal as a 2012 Energy Business Leader Award recipient.

Robert Barthle '95 DS and Courtney Barthle are proud to announce the birth of a baby girl, Camden Juliet. She was born on November 2, 2007 in Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, Fairfax, Va. Photos, videos, and updates are available on her web site. Gold Book

Robin Conn Blackmon '95 DS was recently promoted to Coordinator, Clinical Systems from System Analyst II at University of South Alabama located in Mobile, Ala.

Leslie Farris Bullins '02 ACC recently accepted a position at Wachovia Capital Partners located in Charlotte as VP - Tax Manager. Leslie recently was employed at Bank of America.

Jennifer Banks Watson '98 MGT and Chris Watson '99 are proud to announce the birth of (2 boys). Banks was born in 2003 and Holden was born in 2007.

Donald JimDonald Jim '81 MKT recently accepted a position at BAE Systems, Inc located in Dahlgren, Va. Retired from the Phoenix Police Department after 21 years of service, he entered into the Individual Ready Reserve with the United States Marine Corps Reserve. His position at BAE Systems, Inc. is the Theater Operations Coordinator for the Joint Expeditionary Forensics Program (JEFF) in Iraq.

The Alumni Blog spoke with Jim two summers ago. He was kind enough to send photos from Iraq.

Russell Yelton '96 MGT was recently elected to Vice President of the North Carolina Business Incubation Association. He was also recently promoted to Executive Director, Entrepreneurial Ventures at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College located in Asheville.

Brice Ackerman '94 DS, '98 MBA recently accepted a position at BB&T located in Raleigh as Payments Product Development Manager. Brice recently was employed at Bank of America as Bill Payment Product Manager.

Diana Vuksic-Harris '01 FIN has been accepted as a member into the National Association of Insurance Women (International). NAIW sponsors the CPIW designation (Certified Professional Insurance Woman) and she is working toward achieving this designation.

Patrick Brooks '96 FIN was selected by the Consumer's Resource Council for 2008 as one of "America's Best Financial Planners" for inclusion in their annual publication. Brooks owns Brooks Wealth Management in Savannah, Ga.

Daniel Wilkins '86 ACC recently accepted a position at NC Office of Technology Services located in Forest City as Operation and System Analyst.

Walker College graduates are encouraged to submit Class Notes to the Gold Book, the official online community of the Appalachian Alumni Association.

The ASU Center for Entrepreneurship is indeed having a busy spring semester. Along with the Extreme Entrepreneur Tour and the new Dale Tweedy Mentoring Program for Entrepreneur Scholars, later this month it will play host to the Young Entrepreneurs Symposium (YES). It is scheduled for Monday, February 25, from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. in Raley Hall, Room 1020.

This event will feature current students and recent ASU alumni who own their own businesses. They come from a range of backgrounds, including biology, interdisciplinary studies, music and dance, marketing and management. These young entrepreneurs will individually tell their stories as well as entertain questions from the audience.

Kevin Patterson '93 ACC has been hired as county manager in Scotland County. He served as the county's finance director and assistant county manager since April 2004. He was picked to be interim county manager in June. He served as lead auditor for the 2003-2004 county budget as a senior accountant with Gustaf C. Lundin & Co. in Laurinburg. He had been a Lundin employee since 1994.
