Andrew "Littleberry" Gilleland '92 ECON has been named general manager of the Cincinnati regional office for Toyota Motor Sales. The office oversees the automaker's sales and service operations in Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan and Tennessee.

Jason Graton '10 CIS has joined FleetNet America as a software developer. He will be heading up the sales and use tax development among other projects. His previous positions include web developer for social networking and a global language study site.

Heather Jordan '02 MKT has been appointed Director of Marketing with the Biltmore Estate Wine Company. In her new role, she will be responsible for marketing strategy, market analysis, sales forecasting and wine portfolio development for Biltmore’s extensive wine business -- both on property and across the United States.

BlaisdellMorgan Blaisdell '04 ACC has joined the accounting staff with the Greensboro-based public accounting firm Breslow Starling. Blaisdell is eligible to sit for the CPA exam. He has more than seven years of experience in public accounting prior to joining Breslow Starling and was also a small business owner.

Heidi Williams Ragan '02 MGT recently accepted a position at Transportation Insight located in Hickory, NC as Organizational Development Manager. She was employed at Appalachian State University as Director of Career Services within the Walker College of Business.

Kelly O'Brien '91 MGT, a sales agents with Tarvin Realtors in New Jersey, was recognized recently by the company for sales success in June. She exceeded $1.8 million in sales for the month.

Steven Rogers '91 MGT was recently promoted to Captain from Lieutenant at Burke County Sheriff's Office located in Morganton, NC. He oversees all jail and courthouse operations, civil process and grant writing.

Gold BookGlenn Cook '89 ACC recently accepted a position at Keen Mountain Correctional Center located in Oakwood, Va. as Business Manager.

Eric Feeney '93 DS and Christine Fadke are happy to announce their marriage on June 18, 2011 in Dallas, Texas. They currently reside in Carrollton, Texas.

Vance Josey '97 ACC and Jennifer Kirchhoff are happy to announce their marriage on July 1, 2011 in Raleigh. They currently reside in Raleigh.

Ginny Paris Lanier '98 MGT and Jon Lanier are proud to announce the birth of a baby boy, Benjamin Fulton. He was born April 28, 2011 in Raleigh, NC, and weighed 7 lb., 11 oz..

William "Bill" Durham '89 ECON, '92 MS ACC was recently installed as president of the Appalachian Alumni Council, which represents all alumni of Appalachian State. He will serve a one-year term

Durham is a senior manager with the public accounting firm Thomas, Judy & Tucker P.A.

A certified public accountant, Durham has more than 17 years of experience in public accounting. He began his career with a national CPA firm in Raleigh and spent 16 years serving not-for-profit and middle market clients located primarily in North Carolina and Virginia.

Durham is assistant treasurer and a member of the executive committee of the Friends of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.

Joseph H. Towell '74 ECON '78 MBA has been named CEO with Yadkin Valley Financial Corporation. He had been the acting President and Chief Operating Officer

Towell, who brings 33 years of banking and financial experience to his new position, added the titles of President for the Bank and Chief Operating Officer for the Bank and holding company in fall 2010.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to lead Yadkin Valley Financial Corporation, which is an outstanding institution that is navigating the nation's banking crisis and economic turmoil. We now can look forward to catalyzing new energy in addressing value for our shareholders and service to our customers," Towell, a former Managing Director at First Union Corp., said. "Yadkin Valley Bank and Trust is blessed with inspired talent, operational integrity and financial soundness, and we are committed to advance the Company into this new decade."

Eugene “Gene” Cochrane Jr. '72 ECON, president of The Duke Endowment, will be the speaker at the spring Harlan E. Boyles Distinguished CEO Lecture. The lecture series is named for the late Harlan E. Boyles, who served for 24 years as N.C. state treasurer. The lecture and reception are open to the public. 

Cochrane photoThe event, sponsored by the Walker College of Business, will be held Thursday, March 17, at 2 p.m. in Farthing Auditorium on campus. A reception will follow at 3:15 p.m. at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center.

Cochrane has served as president of the Charlotte-based private philanthropic foundation for six years.  Prior to being named president, he was director and executive vice president of the endowment’s health care division.

Cochrane worked as a hospital administrator for eight years prior to joining The Duke Endowment in 1980.

Cochrane is a member of the Healthcare Advisory Board of the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, the Board of Advisors of the McColl School of Business at Queens University, an elder at First Presbyterian Church Charlotte, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Southeastern Council of Foundations. He participates in a number of local community and philanthropic organizations.

A Charlotte native, Cochrane is a graduate of Erskine College, Appalachian State University, and the Hospital Residency Program of Charlotte Memorial Hospital (now Carolinas Medical Center).

In May 2009, he received an honorary doctorate from the Medical University of South Carolina.

Donna Fisher '72 ECON is the author of five books, all centered on professional networking. Her latest is Power Networking Nuggets, which the Houston Chronicle describes as "an informational book that highlights the value of creating business partnerships." The newspaper includes a profile of Fisher today. donnafisher

She began her career after graduating from Appalachian State University with a degree in business in 1972.
Her speaking business took off in 1989. This led to the publication of the books, beginning in 1991.
By 2001, Fisher had written her third book and opened The Percussion Center as president of HiHat Inc. Growing up, Fisher treasured her grandmother's ukulele, her father's guitar, and her own upright bass, hand drums and drum set.

Paul Visentin '09 CIS and Danielle Waldrop Visentin '07 are happy to announce their marriage on October 24 in Concord. The couple was introduced using the ASU fight song to a crowd of cheering family and friends.

David W. Brooks II '79 ECON '81 MBA was recently appointed Chief Financial Officer with Square 1 Bank, a diversified financial services company. He has served in various capacities with local, regional and super-regional banks for the past 28 years.

Michael Wilfong '05 MGT, who works as a real estate agent with Keller Williams Realty, recently received Charlotte's Best 5 Star award for Client Satisfaction, The 2009 ALC Board of Directions position, and sixth in Union County Top Sales Associates.

Mike Wright '90 FIN, currently serving as Yosef Club President for 2009, recently purchased a franchise from Ameriprise Financial and serves as an independent financial advisor in Salisbury. Gold Book

Meredith McBurney '03 MGT has been promoted to trust officer with BB&T. She joined the bank in 2007 as a communication specialist in BB&T's Institutional Services department.

Diana Vuksic-Harris '01 FIN has obtained the Associate in Insurance (AIS) designation from the Insurance Institute of America.

Jeb McRary '09 ECON received a Masters in Business Administration from The College of William & Mary on May 17, 2009.

Kern Campbell '02 MKT is proud to announce the birth of a baby girl, Lindsay Quinn Campbell. She was born on May 6, 2009 in Raleigh, and weighed 8 lb., 9 oz.. Ashley (Mom) and Lindsay are both doing well. Big sister Avery is very excited to have a little sister.

Richard Stroupe '98 ITOM and Tina Stroupe are proud to announce the birth of their third child, a baby girl, Olivia Jean Stroupe. She was born on May 1, 2009 in Reston Va., and weighed 7 lb., 6 oz.

Natalie Brem Clevenger '83 '88 ECON recently joined Keller Williams Professionals in Asheville as a broker. She spent 14 years in textiles running her family's sock manufacturing plant before getting into real estate three years ago.

Charles McMillan Jr. '05 CIS recently accepted a position as Engineering Technician at PowerComm Engineering, Inc. in Raleigh.

Gold Book T.R. Robinson '87 FIN was recently inducted into the East Burke High School Athletic Hall of Fame class of 2008.

Michelle Josephson Brents '93 MGT received a MS in Nursing Health Systems Administration from Texas Woman's University in May 2008.
